Privacy & School Safety

Privacy & School Safety

CfE Maths Hub is designed to support learning while taking pupil privacy, data protection and school safety seriously. The platform follows a minimal-data approach and is designed with GDPR principles in mind.

This page explains, in plain English, what information is used, how accounts work, and how pupil access is protected.

CfE Maths Hub is an independent teacher-created platform. It is not an official SQA, Education Scotland or council product, and its reports and screeners are designed to support teacher judgement rather than replace it.

Minimal-data approach

What information is used?

We only use information needed to support learning, account access and progress tracking.

  • email address, for login and account access
  • display name or first name/nickname, if added
  • pupil progress, Homework scores and learning history
  • teacher-created class membership, if class tools are used
  • learning support preferences, if enabled

Reassurance

What is not collected?

CfE Maths Hub is not designed around advertising, profiling or unnecessary data collection.

No unnecessary personal information

No location tracking

No advertising profile building

No selling of pupil data

No unnecessary behavioural tracking

No public pupil profiles

Protected access

How pupil access is protected

Secure account access

Accounts use Supabase Auth for login, with protected account sessions and password handling.

Encrypted website connection

The live site is served over HTTPS, helping protect information sent between the browser and the website.

Protected progress access

Saved progress access is designed so account progress and profile details are only available to the right signed-in user or authorised teacher view.

Teacher-controlled class access

Teachers only see information connected to pupils in their classes. Class access is controlled through teacher-created class membership.

GDPR and school use

Designed with GDPR principles in mind

CfE Maths Hub is designed with GDPR principles in mind and follows a minimal-data approach. Privacy, responsible data handling and pupil safety are taken seriously and the platform continues to evolve based on best practice and feedback.

Schools and teachers should always consider their own local policies when introducing digital learning tools.

Do pupils need accounts?

Some learning can be used without an account. Accounts mainly support saved progress, diagnostics, assignments and teacher-linked tracking where those tools are used.

Can teachers monitor progress?

Teachers can view progress information connected to pupils in their own classes. The aim is to support learning, follow-up teaching and class assignments, not broad monitoring outside the class relationship.

Are screeners diagnoses?

No. Dyslexia and dyscalculia screeners are support indicators only. They can help identify possible support needs and suggested next steps, but they do not replace professional assessment or teacher judgement.

Is payment information stored?

Premium Teacher payment processing is handled securely by Stripe. Payment card details are not stored directly by CfE Maths Hub.

Can accounts be removed?

If you would like an account removed or have concerns about data, please get in touch and include the email address connected to the account.
