How to use CfE Maths Hub

A practical guide for pupils, families and teachers using CfE Maths Hub for Scottish curriculum-aligned maths practice, diagnostics, learning support and teacher resources.

Getting started

  • Choose Courses to browse Primary, National Qualification and Higher pathways, or use Find my level to start with a short check and sensible next steps.
  • Primary and supported routes follow Curriculum for Excellence levels and Experiences & Outcomes; senior routes follow Scottish National Qualification pathways.
  • Use the site view control to switch between pupil learning routes and teacher tools where your account allows it. Pupil accounts stay in the pupil learning view.
  • The main menu gives quick access to courses, support, teacher resources, account links and the course selector on smaller screens.

For pupils

  • Open a course, choose a topic and start practice when you are ready. Topic practice gives immediate marking where available, with feedback to help you correct mistakes.
  • Mixed revision brings skills together for retrieval practice and confidence-building. Retrying practice is encouraged, especially after feedback or a diagnostic recommendation.
  • Diagnostics and screeners can recommend next steps when access is provided through a teacher, class or school.

For teachers

  • Teacher Resources brings together printable worksheets, homework support, diagnostic starters, course planning, pupil preview routes and monitoring tools where available.
  • Use diagnostics to identify starting points and support needs, then direct pupils to appropriate topic practice, mixed revision or support settings.
  • Teacher tools are kept separate from pupil learning view so pupils are not shown teacher-only actions or subscription prompts.

Diagnostics and screeners

  • Readiness checks help identify strengths, gaps and practical next steps for course entry, revision planning or targeted practice.
  • The dyslexia and dyscalculia screeners are support indicators, not formal diagnoses. They are designed to highlight possible support needs and guide supportive follow-up.
  • Saved reports and recommendations are available on supported routes for accounts with the correct class, teacher or school access.

Learning Support

  • Light and dark mode are available across the site. Learning Support options can adjust visual presentation and reduce reading pressure for pupils who benefit from clearer layouts.
  • Support settings are designed for ASN-friendly practice, including pupils who benefit from visual support, reduced clutter, step-by-step structure and confidence-building feedback.
  • Dyslexia and dyscalculia support routes help teachers and families think about practical next steps alongside classroom evidence.

Homework and practice

  • Teachers can use homework generation, assignments and printable resources to set independent practice linked to course skills.
  • Where pupil practice is auto-marked, pupils receive instant feedback and can use retrying to build confidence.
  • Progress evidence is available where account and class features are enabled; printable tasks also include teacher-friendly answer support where provided.

Tracking and progress

  • Signed-in use can support progress tracking where enabled. Local progress also helps pupils see what they have practised on the device they are using.
  • Class-linked pupils can receive access to supported diagnostics and screeners through an active teacher class.
  • Teacher monitoring tools can show assignment completion, diagnostic summaries and class-linked progress where access is enabled, and are not part of the pupil learning view.

Privacy and safety

  • CfE Maths Hub is education-focused. There are no public pupil profiles, advertising profiles or social features.
  • Teachers only see pupil information through a safe class relationship where class tools are used.
  • Do not send personal pupil information by email. Use anonymised details when contacting CfE Maths Hub about support or mistakes.
